The Met Office has alerted the UK to prepare for heavy rain as various regions face flood alerts. A yellow weather warning has been issued for eastern England until 3 am on Tuesday, cautioning about heavy rain that could lead to flooding and disruptions. Concurrently, North Wales and north-west England were also under a yellow weather warning for rain until 8 pm on Monday.
The Environment Agency has placed 47 flood warnings in effect, with the Midlands, central east England, and south-west England being most at risk. Residents in the 40 affected areas are advised to take precautionary measures such as moving to higher ground, turning off gas, electricity, and water where safe, and deploying flood protection equipment.
A Met Office spokesperson highlighted the uncertainty in rainfall amounts but mentioned the possibility of widespread 20-40 mm of rain with isolated areas experiencing 60-80 mm. Northeasterly winds are expected to accompany the rain. Weather charts indicate a wet outlook for Monday night, with similar conditions forecasted for Tuesday albeit with less intensity before clearer weather on Wednesday.
Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern mentioned the potential for drier weather towards the end of the week as higher pressure moves in from the north. Despite some rainfall pockets, Wednesday is expected to be drier compared to Monday and Tuesday. McGivern also hinted at more settled conditions with increased sunshine in the north-west before another low-pressure system approaches over the weekend.
