A new clothing donation point in Rutherglen is set to make a significant impact this winter by helping those in need stay warm. The Human Appeal charity has kickstarted its annual Wrap Up campaign, urging people to donate winter clothing they no longer require. The campaign, in partnership with Hands on London and Safestore, aims to collect warm coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and jumpers from October 21 to November 11. These donations will be distributed among vulnerable communities across the UK, including those experiencing homelessness, women and children in shelters, and refugees.
According to The Living Standards report by The Resolution Foundation, absolute poverty levels are predicted to increase this year, pushing an additional 800,000 individuals into poverty, with child poverty on a continuous rise. Against the backdrop of the ongoing cost of living crisis, Human Appeal is not just seeking coat donations but is also calling for other winter essentials to cater to the escalating demand.
Last year, the campaign saw over 12,000 items of winter clothing donated, and this year, Human Appeal aims for an even bigger impact with a target of 15,000 donations. The charity emphasises the crucial role these donations play in supporting those in need, especially during these challenging times.
Those in Rutherglen and surrounding areas can contribute to this cause by dropping off donations at the designated point at Safestore, Rutherglen Retail Park, Dalmarnock Road, G73 1AE. The drop-off point is open from 8 am to 6 pm on Monday to Wednesday, 8 am to 8 pm on Thursday, 8 am to 6 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
