BYD unveils the Sealion 7 SUV at Paris Motor Show
Chinese car manufacturer BYD has become a prominent player in the European market with seven models already on sale and discussions about European manufacturing. The company recently introduced its eighth model, the BYD Sealion 7, at the Paris Motor Show.
The Sealion 7 is part of BYD’s Ocean Series, joining vehicles like the Seal saloon and Dolphin hatchback. The SUV features a design inspired by the sea, with ‘floating’ LED headlights, wave-like curves, and ‘water-drop’ taillights. Inside, the Sealion 7 boasts flowing lines and ‘floating wing’ door handles for added sophistication.
Although specific technical details are scarce, it is known that the Sealion 7 shares its e-platform 3.0 architecture with the Seal. With a length of 4.83m, the Sealion 7 is slightly longer than the saloon. It is anticipated that the SUV will be equipped with an 82.5kWh battery, similar to the Seal, providing an estimated range of around 350 miles.
One of the key highlights of the Sealion 7 is its integration of BYD’s innovative “blade battery” technology. This technology allows for a slimmer battery pack, creating more interior space and a flat floor. The LFP batteries used in the Sealion 7 offer enhanced safety, longevity, temperature resistance, and are cobalt-free.
The vehicle will be available in both two- and four-wheel drive variants, with the faster model capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds. The Sealion 7 supports rapid charging at speeds up to 230kW, outpacing its predecessor, the Seal.
Inside the Sealion 7, passengers can expect a spacious cabin with a low floor and high ceiling. The SUV features a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen, sports seats, wireless smartphone charging, vegan leather, and a range of driver assistance technologies.
BYD executive vice president Stella Li highlighted that the Sealion 7 caters to European demand for SUVs, combining design, technology, range, and performance. While pricing details are yet to be revealed, the SUV is expected to be positioned above the Seal in BYD’s lineup, likely starting at just under £50,000.
First orders for the BYD Sealion 7 are anticipated to commence this month, with deliveries expected by the end of the year. The introduction of the Sealion 7 demonstrates BYD’s commitment to meeting customer preferences in Europe and expanding its product range to offer a diverse selection of vehicles.
