A man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after sexually assaulting a woman who was described as “lifeless” outside a pub in Motherwell. Thomas Webb, aged 33 and residing on Arran Road, Motherwell, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years. The incident took place in the town centre on July 21 the previous year and was witnessed by pub staff and members of the public.
According to prosecution lawyer Carla McGuire, Webb had engaged in conversation with the victim, a woman in her 50s, at a pub where they were later seen kissing and involved in sexual activities. Subsequently, they were asked to leave the premises. The victim was noted to be intoxicated and unconscious during the assault. CCTV footage revealed her being unsteady on her feet and ultimately falling to the ground.
The assault was reported to the authorities by witnesses, one of whom recorded the incident on a phone. McGuire stated that the victim appeared unconscious and lifeless during the assault. When the police arrived at the scene, the woman was found lying face down on the pavement in an extremely intoxicated state. She was later taken to the hospital for assessment before being discharged to her home the next morning.
