A California man, Michel DiGiorgio, has been accused of drugging and raping at least nine women, one of whom tragically died from an overdose. The 50-year-old now faces serious charges including one count of murder, three counts of rape by use of drugs, and various other sexual-based charges in Los Angeles County. The charges were announced by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office last Friday.
Authorities in California believe that the sexual assaults occurred at homes in Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach between 2019 and 2021. DiGiorgio owned these homes, although it remains unclear how he came into contact with or knew the victims. Investigators have not disclosed why there was a delay of two years after the assaults before DiGiorgio was arrested in connection to the case.
One of the victims allegedly suffered an overdose death on July 6, 2020, after being given drugs by DiGiorgio and then raped. The identity of this victim has not been made public. DiGiorgio is currently being held in jail without the option of bond, and if found guilty, he could be imprisoned for life.
Law enforcement authorities suspect that there may be more victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward to help with the investigation. District Attorney George Gascón expressed his condolences to the victims, acknowledging the irreversible impact the alleged offences have had on their lives. He emphasized the commitment of his office to seeking justice for the pain and trauma caused by DiGiorgio’s actions, stating that predatory behaviour will not be tolerated in the community.
Gascón encouraged individuals with any information related to the incidents involving DiGiorgio to report it to the Redondo Beach Police Department. The safety and welfare of the community are top priorities, and efforts will be made to ensure such predatory behaviour is swiftly addressed and prevented in the future.
