A Scottish paedophile has been sentenced to three years on the Sex Offenders Register after being found with vile images of children as young as two on his phone. Jake Prior, 30, had collected over 150 child abuse files over a year-long period. He claimed he downloaded the material following the end of a relationship and while struggling with substance abuse. When police searched his phone, they discovered the disturbing images.
Prior initially downplayed his involvement but later pleaded guilty in Dundee Sheriff Court. Sheriff Mungo Bovey placed him under supervision for three years and ordered him to attend a sex offender treatment program as well as perform 200 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, strict restrictions were imposed on Prior’s internet and social media usage.
Police raided Prior’s home following a tip-off about the indecent material he possessed. The investigation revealed that he had downloaded images of children between February 27, 2022, and August 9, 2023. The court was informed that the images were created over an 18-month period using the Kik messenger platform.
Prior’s defence solicitor mentioned the challenges he faced, including the end of a relationship and the loss of a family member leading to excessive alcohol and drug use. Despite initial minimisation of his responsibility, Prior eventually accepted his actions during interviews with social workers.
