Black reminisced about the impact Osbourne’s music had on him, particularly his album “Blizzard of Ozz,” which he described as a “heavy metal masterpiece.” He urged young music fans to delve into Osbourne’s extensive catalogue, rather than seeking comfort in other contemporary music.
Acknowledging the misconceptions surrounding Osbourne’s image, Black highlighted his role as a loving father, husband, and friend, dispelling the notion of an “evil alliance with the Dark Lord Satan.” The heartfelt tribute culminated with Black encouraging fans to experience the transformative power of Osbourne’s music.
Alongside Osbourne, a diverse array of artists were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during the event. The list included Mary J Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, and A Tribe Called Quest in the performer category. Additionally, Alexis Korner, John Mayall, and Big Mama Thornton were honoured with the Musical Influence Award, while Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, and Norman Whitfield received the Musical Excellence Award.
In light of recent events, Osbourne condemned the senseless shooting of his former guitarist Jake E Lee in Las Vegas, denouncing it as yet another tragic act of gun violence. The ceremony was a celebration of musical excellence and a testament to the enduring impact of artists across genres.
