Part of the M25 motorway in the UK is facing closures after a massive lorry fire blocked the carriageway. The incident occurred between junction 5 and junction 6, located between Sevenoaks and Godstone in Kent. The blaze ignited around 10 pm on a Sunday evening, leading to the closure of all clockwise lanes. Drivers travelling northwest towards West London are advised to find alternative routes as the closure is anticipated to last until at least midday on Monday, according to National Highways.
A spokesperson mentioned that specialized recovery efforts will be necessary, and it is likely that the road surface will require resurfacing. The fire involved a heavy goods vehicle, which was captured engulfed in flames on CCTV footage. The cause of the incident remains unknown, and fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Surrey Fire and Rescue dispatched five fire engines and two water carriers to the scene, resulting in the closure of the road in both directions. While the anti-clockwise carriageway has reopened, lanes three and four within junction 6 remain closed. Additionally, the M26 westbound near junction 2A and junction 5 of the M25 linking to the M26 and A21 have been closed due to the incident.
