‘Smile 2’ Director Reveals Casting as Tribute to Lead Actor’s Famous Father

A major homage to a beloved Hollywood actor is revealed in the upcoming film ‘Smile 2.’ Similar to its predecessor ‘Smile,’ which starred Kevin Bacon’s daughter, the sequel also has a recognisable face in the cast – creating a buzz among fans with a new eerie film poster.

Director of ‘Smile 2,’ Parker Finn, disclosed that he chose Ray Nicholson for a role in the film due to his uncanny resemblance to his father, Jack Nicholson, known for his iconic role in the 1980s horror classic ‘The Shining.’ Ray, aged 32, is Jack’s son with former actor and model Rebecca Broussard. Apart from ‘Smile 2,’ Ray’s acting credits include ‘Promising Young Woman,’ ‘Out of the Blue,’ and the TV series ‘Panic.’ Jack Nicholson, a three-time Oscar winner, has six children from five different relationships.

In an interview with Entertainment Daily, Finn expressed his admiration for Jack Nicholson and how Ray’s audition for the role impressed him. “I love that Ray has very strong genes, and his smile, instantly, I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s like looking at a young Jack,'” Finn shared. He praised Ray’s ability to embody the charming yet venomous character in the film, adding, “He could bring again that feeling of, I’m really, really anxious, but part of it is also tickling me.”

Although the role was not initially written with Nicholson in mind, Finn described the crossover with ‘The Shining’ as a serendipitous moment that enriched the film. At the premiere, Ray reflected on his relationship with his father, highlighting their differences and the impact Jack has had on his life. “I love him. He’s also my hero. I’m the luckiest kid in the world,” Ray expressed gratefully.

‘Smile 2’ is currently showing in cinemas, offering audiences a unique blend of talent and a nod to Hollywood’s iconic lineage. The film promises to captivate viewers with its intriguing storyline and stellar performances inspired by a legendary actor’s legacy.
