Changeable Weather Impacts Dumfries and District Ramblers’ Latest Walks
The past week brought varied weather conditions for the Dumfries and District Ramblers as they embarked on their latest walks across the picturesque landscapes of Dumfries and Galloway. The Sunday walk unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the onslaught of Storm Ashley, which swept through the region.
Despite the interruption caused by the storm, the group of 11 members set off on a Thursday walk, the Tynron Doon circular, from Tynron to Auchengibbert Hill. While they experienced wet weather upon reaching the summit, the walk was still enjoyable, thanks to the guidance of Stuart who led the group.
On Saturday, a group of 17 Ramblers embarked on a walk to Ganna and were fortunate to reach the summit without incident. They were rewarded with fabulous views and only a few wet feet, followed by a refreshing tea and cakes stop at Ae cycle cafe. Peter was commended for leading this successful walk amidst unpredictable weather conditions.
Looking ahead, the Dumfries and District Ramblers have planned upcoming walks for the weekend. On Saturday, October 26, an adventure walk to Loch of the Lowes is scheduled, described as a B+ walk with nine miles and 1,900 feet of ascent. Led by Tom, this challenging walk will take participants through various terrains, starting from Brooms Road car park in Dumfries at 8 am for car sharing.
Additionally, on Sunday, October 27, a half-day walk known as the Kirkton Circular, described as a C walk with six miles and 219 feet of ascent, will be led by Isabel. The route includes a trek through Kirkton to Longloch Wood and Kemys Hall, offering a more relaxed walking experience. Participants are advised to meet at Brooms Road car park at 9 am for car sharing.
