A primary school pupil from Rutherglen in Scotland has accomplished an incredible feat by scaling Ben Nevis, the country’s highest peak, to raise funds for his classmates. Gabriel Payne, an 11-year-old student at St Anthony’s Primary, undertook this challenge during the October break to support fellow pupils attending an educational camp. Realizing the financial burden faced by P7 students in affording the residential camp, Gabriel was inspired to make a difference.
The young schoolboy set a fundraising goal of £1000 for the school and diligently prepared himself by adhering to a rigorous training routine before taking on the ascent of Ben Nevis. Gabriel’s training included trekking up Tinto Hill with his father, Gareth, to build up his stamina and skills for the ultimate challenge. Despite facing windy conditions and limited visibility at times, Gabriel successfully reached the summit of Ben Nevis in under five hours, accompanied by his father.
Although the weather did not offer the best views from the summit, Gabriel expressed his joy and pride in achieving this remarkable milestone. He documented his journey and gratitude towards everyone who supported him on his YouTube channel. Despite receiving generous contributions from the local community, as well as friends and family from distant places like the United States and Australia, Gabriel is still working towards meeting his fundraising target.
