A man who threw his pyjama-clad partner onto the street after attacking her in his home has been sentenced to 16 months in jail. Aiden Henderson, 49, pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman to her severe injury at his flat on Greenrigg Road, Cumbernauld, on April 11. The couple had been in an on-and-off relationship for four years. The assault occurred following a drinking session at Henderson’s residence.
During a hearing at Airdrie Sheriff Court, the prosecutor, Sarah Healing, recounted the events that unfolded that morning. Around 6 am, an argument broke out between Henderson and his partner in the living room. Henderson proceeded to grab her by the hair, dragged her into the hallway, and violently struck her head against the wall. Subsequently, he kicked her repeatedly on her head and body before forcibly ejecting her from the premises, despite her being in pyjamas.
The victim, who was left bleeding from a cut on her head, pleaded to be let back in. After Henderson eventually allowed her to re-enter, she sought help by calling for an ambulance. Upon police arrival, Henderson showed no remorse and calmly stated that he had asked her to leave. The officers observed signs of a disturbance, with the victim in a distressed state and visibly injured.
The woman was taken to Monklands Hospital, where she received four staples for a 4cm cut on her scalp and was found to have bruising on her body. In addition to the jail term, Sheriff Siobhan Connelly imposed a five-year non-harassment order against Henderson. This incident underscores the seriousness of domestic violence and the legal consequences that perpetrators may face.
