A police officer drove after a suspect who left him with a seven-inch wound in a heroic act of chasing down a criminal. PC Chris Duffy, along with his police dog Reno, responded to a call at a pub in Mansfield where staff had been threatened. While detaining one suspect, another attacked PC Duffy from behind with a large blade, causing a severe injury. Despite this, PC Duffy pursued the attacker and drove him towards fellow officers who managed to apprehend him. PC Duffy praised his dog Reno for his role in sniffing out the suspects and expressed his gratitude for being shortlisted for a Pride of Britain Award.
Another finalist for the award is Hewitt Clark, a lifesaver with over 35 years of service in the RNLI’s Lerwick crew. Clark has been involved in numerous rescues and received several medals for bravery. Despite being retired, he continues to assist the crew in training exercises. Community support officer Lucas Summers is also a finalist after bravely saving a suicidal woman from an oncoming train by leaping onto the tracks seconds before it passed. Lucas received accolades for his courageous act and is honoured to be nominated for the award.
Firefighters Jonathan Burch, Christopher Sweeny, and Nick Willis are also finalists for their daring rescue of a swimmer trapped by the tide in Jersey’s St Quen’s Bay. Despite facing dangerous conditions, the trio worked together to save the swimmer’s life. Burch suffered injuries during the rescue but acknowledges the importance of their training in such situations. The Chief Fire Officer commended their efforts, stating that their actions undoubtedly saved a life. All three firefighters are humbled to be recognised as finalists for the Pride of Britain award.
