Forensic officers are currently combing the streets outside a community centre in Hamilton as a murder investigation has been launched by the police. The probe comes after a horrifying attack inside the Burnbank Centre that resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man. Emergency services responded to reports of a suspected knife attack at approximately 5.30pm on Monday, October 21, leading to the tragic incident.
A 59-year-old man was rushed to the hospital following the attack, and his condition remains unknown at this time. To secure the area, dozens of police officers closed off Whitehill Road and Purdie Street. A 56-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which authorities are treating as a case of murder and attempted murder.
Today, detectives in forensic gear have been observed scouring the area for evidence. Pictures show officers examining a nearby bin and searching a walkway that leads to Purdie Street. The community has been shaken by this suspected knife attack, with local MSPs expressing shock and sadness over the tragic event. Hamilton MSP Christina McKelvie and Imogen Walker, MP for Hamilton and Clyde Valley, have both conveyed their sympathies to the victims and their families.
