In a tragic incident, a baby was fatally shot by a toddler who discovered a loaded gun inside a parked car outside a medical center in Texas. The heartbreaking event took place on Monday afternoon at the parking lot of the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Affairs Hospital in San Antonio.
Authorities reported that three children, aged 3, 2, and 10 months, along with a woman, were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, one of the older children found a rifle in the car’s trunk and accidentally discharged the firearm, resulting in a bullet striking the 10-month-old baby.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders at the scene, the infant, identified as Khamari Khols Lang by the Bexar County Medical Examiner, tragically succumbed to the injuries sustained.
McManus described the event as a “terrible, terrible tragedy” during a press briefing following the incident. While the exact relationship between the woman and the children remains unconfirmed by the police, local reports have indicated that the children are siblings. It was noted that the family was visiting the hospital for an appointment when the accidental shooting occurred.
