A courageous woman managed to punch her way out of a cinderblock cell after being kidnapped, potentially saving numerous other victims, according to police reports. Negasi Zuberi has been convicted of kidnapping and raping two women, with one victim being held captive in a soundproof cinderblock cell.
Zuberi, along with his wife and two young children, appeared like any other family when they moved into a quiet street in Klamath Falls, Oregon, last year. However, on July 15, 2023, the tranquillity of the neighbourhood was disrupted when a bloodied woman sought help from a passing car outside the Zuberis’ home and pleaded for them to call 911.
On October 18, 2024, Zuberi was found guilty of multiple charges including kidnapping, transportation of a victim for criminal sexual activity, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as a previously convicted felon. During a search of his property, police discovered disturbing plans labelled “Operation Take Over” detailing Zuberi’s sinister intentions to evade law enforcement.
The woman managed to escape Zuberi’s clutches by punching the cinderblock cell’s door until her fists were bloodied. She eventually broke free and grabbed a handgun from Zuberi’s vehicle before flagging down a passing motorist who alerted the authorities. The FBI commended her quick thinking, stating that her actions may have prevented other women from falling victim to a similar fate.
Zuberi, known by different aliases and having lived in ten different states since 2016, had a troubling history that extended beyond his recent convictions. He was linked to multiple violent sexual assaults across various states, with the FBI expressing concern that there could be more victims yet to be identified.
Residents of Klamath Falls, a town left reeling by Zuberi’s arrest, were shocked to learn about his heinous crimes, including his wife who reportedly had no knowledge of his actions. Zuberi’s chilling plans and criminal activities have left a community in disbelief, with authorities continuing to investigate to ensure justice is served.
