East Kilbride MP, Joani Reid, extends a warm welcome to a talented young professional, Nathan Young, at Parliament following his outstanding performance at the WorldSkills competition. Nathan, a former student of Duncanrig Secondary School, represented the UK in mechanical engineering CAD at the competition in Lyon, where he earned a prestigious Medallion for Excellence for his exceptional talent and dedication. As part of Team UK, consisting of 31 young professionals from across the four nations, Nathan contributed to the team’s impressive top ten finish at the global event, which included securing two silver medals, two bronze medals, and several medallions for excellence in different skills.
WorldSkills Competitions are recognized as the benchmark of skills excellence, motivating young competitors to pursue their passions and transform them into successful careers. The 47th WorldSkills Competition held in Lyon from September 10-15 showcased the skills and dedication of participants from around the world. Joani Reid, the Labour MP for East Kilbride and Strathaven, commended Nathan’s achievement, emphasizing how it exemplifies the UK’s standing as a hub for talent development, investment, and job creation. She highlighted the significance of supporting further education, apprenticeships, and skills training to nurture the potential of young individuals like Nathan.
