At least 11 people, including two children, lost their lives in Uganda on Tuesday after a tragic incident involving a fuel truck explosion near the capital city of Kampala. According to police spokesman Patrick Onyango, the fuel truck overturned following an accident and subsequently burst into flames in a town just outside Kampala.
The victims were so severely burnt in the blaze that they were unrecognisable, Onyango stated in a released statement. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a thick black cloud of smoke billowing from the site of the explosion. Shocking footage shared online captured individuals attempting to collect fuel from the overturned truck shortly before the fatal blast occurred.

In 2019, 62 people perished in Tanzania while trying to siphon fuel from a damaged truck, and in 2015, a devastating incident in South Sudan claimed the lives of at least 183 individuals as villagers gathered around a fuel truck to collect fuel.
