A group of young filmmakers in Dumfriesshire, comprising both Scots and Ukrainians, have been lauded for their recent short film project that explores their deep-rooted connection to nature. The film, titled “In Nature,” was a collaborative effort by Callum McDougall, Pavlo Novikov, Anastasiia Kvitko, Shaima Sheikh, Yehor Fokin, Yuliia Yashkina, and Anna Romanyuk, guided by documentary filmmaker John Wallace. Set against picturesque locations in Annan such as Port Street, Annan Harbour, and Annan Water, the film beautifully captures the filmmakers’ appreciation for the natural world.
The project also involved Veronika Yashkina as the social media officer, who helped bring visibility to the film. “In Nature” was showcased at the ImMerse festival weekend in Annan to enthusiastic reviews, with three of the filmmakers, Anna, Yuliia, and Anastasiia, participating in a panel discussion. Councillor Gail Macgregor commended the film, highlighting the dedication of the young filmmakers to their local environment.
Yuliia shared her thoughts on the experience, stating, “Making In Nature really showed me a new way we can help make the world better. By supporting nature, we can preserve the beauty and diversity of our planet. It was great fun talking and filming with everyone about nature.”
This collaborative effort between young filmmakers from different backgrounds not only showcases their talent but also highlights the importance of preserving and celebrating nature in today’s world. Their innovative approach to storytelling through film serves as a reminder of the profound impact nature has on shaping our emotions and perspectives.
