Turkish Minister Reports Attack on Aerospace Company Resulting in Casualties
Turkey’s interior minister revealed that an assault on the premises of the state-run aerospace and defense company TUSAS has led to casualties, both dead and injured. Ali Yerlikaya shared the unfortunate news without providing specific details regarding the attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc., located in the outskirts of Ankara.
The incident, which unfolded during a changing of security personnel, saw a group of assailants arrive at the complex’s entrance in a taxi. While one attacker detonated a bomb, others managed to infiltrate the compound, initiating ongoing gunfire and potential hostage situations. Helicopters were observed circling above the facility in Ankara’s Kahramankazan district.
TUSAS, known for its production of civilian and military aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and other defense and space systems, was at the heart of the attack. Security footage broadcasted on television depicted armed individuals involved in the confrontation, including a man carrying a backpack and an assault rifle, alongside a woman with a similar weapon.
Following reports of an explosion and subsequent gunfire at the complex, law enforcement, medical teams, and rescue workers swiftly responded to the scene. Employees were swiftly evacuated to safety zones within the area, as per media accounts.
