Good Omens to end with single episode final season as Neil Gaiman exits show

Good Omens will conclude its run with a single 90-minute episode for its final season as Neil Gaiman departs the show, according to The Independent. The popular Prime Video fantasy series, based on the 1990 novel co-authored by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, revolves around the unlikely friendship between angel Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (played by David Tennant).

The show’s first season aired in 2019, with the second season following in 2023. The third season’s release date had not been revealed until now, as it was confirmed in December. However, it has now been decided that the final season will consist of just one extended episode.

The move to shorten the final season came after Neil Gaiman, who served as an executive producer on the series, departed due to a series of sexual assault allegations. Gaiman’s production company, the Blank Corporation, will no longer be associated with the show, and a new writer is expected to be brought in to complete the script.

Despite the changes, Michael Sheen and David Tennant are set to begin filming the television movie in Scotland early next year. Production on the third season was previously halted in September following the accusations against Gaiman.

Several women have come forward with allegations of non-consensual sexual encounters with the author, accusations which Gaiman has vehemently denied. While facing the allegations, Gaiman also reportedly faced further accusations from additional women.

Meanwhile, the director of Good Omens, Douglas Mackinnon, who helmed the first two seasons, had already confirmed his departure from the show before the third season was greenlit. In a comment on his Instagram post in October 2023, Mackinnon stated that he was no longer involved with the show.

In conclusion, the much-anticipated final season of Good Omens will wrap up with a single episode following Neil Gaiman’s exit from the show amidst allegations of sexual assault. Despite the changes, fans can expect to see Michael Sheen and David Tennant back in action as they bring the beloved characters to life one final time.
