Kirkcudbright woman completes marathon hike of Scotland’s mountains for charity

Kirkcudbright woman raises £4,001.25 for Prostate Cancer UK by completing marathon hike of Scotland’s mountains

A Kirkcudbright woman, Jane McCartney, has recently finished a challenging trek up Scotland’s hills and mountains to raise funds for charity. Jane successfully climbed a total of 150,000 feet, equivalent to more than five and a half times the height of Mount Everest, in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Her journey for Prostate Cancer UK commenced earlier this year and took her across various regions of Scotland, from Galloway to the far north of the country. Reflecting on her achievement, Jane shared, “In January 2024 I decided I would hike 150,000ft in ascent and last month I managed to complete it.”

Throughout her challenge, Jane tackled Munros in Torridon, hills in the Outer Hebrides, mounds in Orkney, as well as numerous local hills. With the support of sponsors and gift aid, she was able to raise an impressive £4,001.25 for the charity.

Jane expressed gratitude towards the EGGS section (Elderly Gentleman’s Golf Society) from Kirkcudbright Golf Club, who teamed up with her for a fundraising evening at the clubhouse, contributing £1,240 to the cause. She extended her thanks to everyone who sponsored her, including those who chose to remain anonymous.

Despite battling through adverse weather conditions throughout the year, with both her first and last hikes done in the rain, Jane remained determined to complete her goal. Her commitment and effort have not gone unnoticed, as she has successfully contributed to the fight against prostate cancer while also exploring the beautiful landscapes of Scotland.

The community is inspired by Jane’s dedication to supporting a worthy cause and her remarkable accomplishment in completing this marathon hike for charity. Her fundraising efforts have made a significant impact on those affected by prostate cancer and have set an example for others to follow in her footsteps.
