Pupils at St Kevin’s Primary School in Bargeddie recently participated in a special event to commemorate the beginning of construction on their new community hub. The £16 million hub, which will include a new St Kevin’s Primary building, is set to feature spacious and welcoming classrooms for up to 242 pupils, outdoor learning areas including a forest school area, a gym hall, and a flexible multi-use games area. A turf-cutting ceremony was held at the construction site to signify the commencement of works.

The project, designed in consultation with pupils and stakeholders, aims to provide top-notch educational and community facilities for the local community. Councillor Michael McBride, convener of education, children and families, expressed his excitement about the development, stating, “This is such a positive development and will be welcomed by so many people in the wider community.” He highlighted the hub’s potential to offer an excellent learning environment for children to thrive and also serve as a valuable resource for local clubs and organizations.

The new St Kevin’s Community Hub is a collaborative effort between St Kevin’s Primary School, Bargeddie Primary, and hub development partners. The current shared campus with Bargeddie Primary will be reorganized to accommodate the new facilities, with Bargeddie Primary expected to fully occupy the existing campus post-completion. The project is not only significant for its educational and community impact but also for the employment opportunities it will generate within the local area.

The project is set to benefit from Kier’s expertise in delivering state-of-the-art educational facilities. Phil McDowell, regional director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, affirmed their commitment to working closely with partners to ensure the project meets the community’s needs and provides lasting benefits.

As construction progresses, the focus will be on incorporating elements that enhance the hub’s functionality and sustainability. The completion of the project is anticipated to bring long-term benefits to the community and generations to come. With a dedication to excellence in project delivery, the new St Kevin’s Community Hub is poised to become a vibrant and modern space benefiting the entire community.

In summary, the construction of the new community hub at St Kevin’s Primary School in Bargeddie marks a significant milestone in providing enhanced educational and community facilities for the local area.
