Dobbies to Offer Free Real Christmas Trees Ahead of Festive Season
Dobbies, a leading garden centre, is set to spread festive cheer by giving away free real Christmas trees to nurseries and schools in Ayr. The initiative is part of Dobbies Community Christmas Trees program, in collaboration with sustainable tree grower, Needlefresh. The goal is to provide nurseries and schools with a real Christmas tree for decorating during the holiday season.
The Christmas trees from Dobbies are grown sustainably in environmentally managed fields across Scotland. A dedicated team handplants, prunes, and harvests each tree to ensure the well-being of the surrounding environment, wildlife, and plants. Each tree comes with a tag and a special code, allowing recipients to track its origin.
Managing Director of Needlefresh, George Hood, expressed delight in partnering with Dobbies Ayr store for this donation. He encouraged local schools and nurseries to apply for a real tree, fostering a festive atmosphere for students, teachers, and parents. Nigel Lawton, Dobbies’ Plant Buyer, also provided helpful tips for choosing the right Christmas tree, emphasizing the importance of measuring space, selecting the appropriate tree shape, and maintaining tree hydration.
Applications for the free Christmas trees are now open, with a deadline of November 7. Successful applicants will be notified in mid-November and can collect their tree at Dobbies Ayr Christmas Shopping Night on November 21, with proceeds going to Teenage Cancer Trust.
