Thrifty Scottish sisters recently embarked on an exciting adventure to Copenhagen from Edinburgh Airport for the cost of a typical night out. Annabel McTaggart, aged 28, along with her sister Maria, decided to take advantage of a budget-friendly travel opportunity and explore the Danish capital in a day trip.
Annabel, who works in airport security, shared that they rose early at 5 am, drove from Ayrshire to Edinburgh, and caught the 9.10 am flight to Copenhagen. Opting for same-day return flights, they snagged tickets for £112 for the trip on October 26. The sisters made sure to plan ahead and cut costs by having breakfast at home.
Upon landing in Copenhagen, they wasted no time and immersed themselves in the city’s charm, visiting popular spots like Nyhavn, Rosenborg Castle, The King’s Garden, Malienborg Palace, the little mermaid monument, and Kastellet Fortress within seven hours. They even sampled local delicacies and a viral croissant at Buka Cafe.
Despite finding the food slightly pricey, Annabel noted that their total expenditure for the day, including food, drinks, metro tickets, and souvenirs, only amounted to £135. She emphasised that this expense was comparable to a typical night out back in Scotland. Encouraged by their successful day trip, Annabel has already booked future adventures to Warsaw and Vienna plus a day trip to Bratislava.
Annabel expressed her excitement and revealed her plans to visit Copenhagen, potentially adding a quick trip to Sweden next time. She found the experience tiring but immensely rewarding, sparking a newfound passion for exploring new cities and landmarks. Annabel documents her travels on Instagram under the handle @annabelstravelsx.
In essence, the sisters’ thrifty yet enriching journey serves as a testament to the allure of budget-friendly travel and the joy of seizing adventurous opportunities, even within a limited timeframe.
