Major East Renfrewshire Project Faces Delay Due to Wet Summer Weather
A significant project undertaken by East Renfrewshire Council is set to face delays due to adverse weather conditions during the summer months. The Aurs Road improvement scheme, which includes the construction of a new Aurs Road, waterside promenade, and planned Dams to Darnley Country Park Visitor Centre, has encountered setbacks. The road, connecting Barrhead to Newton Mearns, was originally expected to open in December but is now projected to be completed by next summer.
The project aims to transform the current winding single-carriageway road into a safer and straighter road, with an additional active travel route and a waterfront promenade overlooking Balgray Reservoir. Delays have been attributed to unexpected challenges, such as unfavorable ground conditions, the need to relocate existing utilities, unusually wet weather, and the discovery and removal of a former water works facility during the site preparation phase.
