Blantyre Man Arrested with £11,000 Worth of Heroin
A Blantyre man, William Collins, was found with heroin valued at £11,000 and has been sentenced to 225 hours of unpaid work instead of jail time. The incident took place when Collins was stopped by police for a routine check on the M74 at junction 4 last year. Collins, 29, admitted to being involved in the supply of heroin and was subsequently placed under social work supervision for 18 months by Hamilton Sheriff Court. Additionally, he will have to spend 12 weeks under electronic tagging, confined to his home during nighttime.
The police discovered the drugs during the routine stop when Collins seemed nervous and was detained under the Misuse of Drugs Act. A block of brown powder, weighing about 450 grammes and testing positive for diamorphine, was found in his possession. Collins was also on bail for another matter at the time of the arrest.
