A notable haul of designer bags and shoes has been apprehended from the Spanish residence of a Scottish drugs kingpin. Colin Wright, aged 38, was identified as a senior member of an organised crime group (OCG) responsible for managing an industrial-scale amphetamine lab in Scotland, along with the trafficking of heroin and cocaine. Wright, originating from Motherwell, was apprehended in Spain earlier this year and has subsequently been convicted post his extradition.
Following his arrest, law enforcement discovered several high-end items, including designer labels such as Louboutin and Gucci trainers, Hermes bags, and valuable watches collectively valued at thousands of pounds, from his property in Torre Pacheco, Murcia. Colin Wright was directly involved in the supply of cocaine and heroin within both Scotland and England, as the proprietor of the group’s Scottish division. He had been on the run in Spain to evade capture after authorities arrested various fellow OCG members in March 2021.
Working in close collaboration with Terence Earle, aged 50, who was sentenced to 16-and-a-half years in April 2023, and Terence’s cousin Stephen Earle, aged 52, who received an 11-year and four-month sentence in August the same year, Wright utilized the EncroChat communication nickname ‘Jack-Nicklaus’. Engaging in drug procurement, route evaluation, and customer sourcing, he played a significant role in shipping a minimum of 10 kilos of heroin and seven kilos of cocaine nationwide. Wright has pleaded guilty to five drug-related charges at the Liverpool Crown Court and is scheduled for sentencing on 25 November.

This case also serves as a testament that international borders do not serve as a secure refuge for criminals seeking to evade justice, as the NCA possesses the capability to pursue and prosecute offenders beyond national boundaries.
