Three individuals, Jamie Pollard, Steven Smith, and Donna Teague, have been sentenced to jail after carrying out violent street robberies in a city centre, leaving two men injured. In two separate incidents, Pollard, accompanied by different partners, targeted their victims, inflicting physical harm and stealing from them.
In the first attack, Pollard and Smith assaulted a homeless man sleeping rough in Newcastle city centre. The victim was stamped on, punched, and robbed of his belongings, including his passport and food. The second victim, a bar worker, was attacked by Pollard and Teague while on his way to get a taxi, resulting in a dislocated shoulder, broken collarbone, and other injuries.
CCTV footage revealed the brutal nature of the assaults, with Pollard and his accomplices using violence to steal from their victims. Both Pollard and Smith have a history of criminal convictions, with Pollard receiving a 91-month jail term and Smith a 40-month sentence. Teague, also with a criminal record, was sentenced to 40 months in prison.
The victims of these attacks suffered physical injuries and emotional distress, with one victim experiencing ongoing mental health issues and fear of encountering the attackers again. The court heard how the robberies had a significant impact on the victims’ lives, affecting their ability to work and causing lasting trauma.
In their defense, Pollard, Smith, and Teague cited various personal challenges, including homelessness and drug use. However, their actions have had serious consequences for the victims, highlighting the need for accountability for such violent crimes in city centres.
