The winning scratch card revealed the number 31, a significant number for the couple as it marks the date of their first date on August 31, 2020. Luke shared, “If we weren’t in the area I wouldn’t have gone to that shop and won £1 million. It feels like the stars have aligned with the house and the win.”
Reflecting on the serendipitous events, Luke explained that he scratched off the winning number 31, which also coincides with the date of his first date with Alison. They first met at school and reconnected years later via social media. Recalling their first date that eventually led to their engagement, Luke fondly mentioned, “It took some persuading, but she finally agreed to go on a coffee date with me. Six hours later, coffee had turned into dinner and drinks, and we’re now engaged to be married.”
The life-changing win came on an ordinary Wednesday night for Luke, who decided to try his luck with a scratch card while buying bread. Overwhelmed with shock and joy, he is now planning to take his family on extravagant holidays to Lapland and skiing, as well as invest in education and potentially start his own business. Luke expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m not sure what that will be yet, but I want to go back to college and invest in myself. That is one of the best investments you can make.”
