Princess Anne Receives Warm Welcome in Scots Hospice
The Princess Royal, HRH The Princess Anne, made a special visit to Strathcarron Hospice on Friday, where she was welcomed by a team of supporters. This marked her 37th visit to the Fankerton hospice since its establishment in 1982. During her visit, Princess Anne met with the new CEO, Mags McCarthy, Lord Lieutenant Alan Simpson, Provost Robert Bissett, and Chief Superintendent Roddy Irvine. She spent time touring the hospice, engaging with staff, volunteers, supporters, and patients.
As part of the visit, Princess Anne received a presentation on the hospice’s projects in partnership with Glenochil Prison focusing on frailty and bereavement. She also had the opportunity to interact with various individuals, including hospice volunteers, representatives from Cumbernauld Action and Care for the Elderly, students from local schools, and a patient featured in the Strathcarron Stories Podcast series. Mags McCarthy expressed gratitude for Princess Anne’s continued support and dedication to the hospice.
The hospice, which relies on the efforts of 243 staff and numerous volunteers, provides essential care for patients with life-limiting conditions in the Forth Valley and Cumbernauld areas. In the previous year, the hospice accommodated 323 patients in its 24-bed unit and supported 357 Hospice at Home patients. Princess Anne also met with various volunteers, fundraising supporters, and community representatives during her visit. The hospice aims to raise £16,637 daily to maintain its services.
During her visit, Princess Anne interacted with individuals from different sectors, including students, volunteers, and council members, highlighting the widespread community support for the hospice’s endeavours.
