A deer was discovered with “catastrophic injuries” next to a cliff in Aberdeenshire, believed to have been spooked by fireworks. The animal was found with a badly fractured jaw and multiple leg fractures at the foot of cliffs in Crovie on Sunday. New Arc Wildlife Rescue, a charity in the area, responded to the scene, but unfortunately, due to the severity of its injuries, the deer had to be euthanized. Witnesses reported hearing fireworks the night before, leading rescue staff to speculate that the deer was frightened by the sounds, causing it to flee and fall over the cliff edge.
The New Arc Wildlife representative stated, “With a badly fractured jaw and multiple leg fractures, it was clear the deer had fallen from the cliffs above. Sadly, due to the extent of the injuries, we had no choice but to end the deer’s suffering immediately.” The charity highlighted the potential dangers of fireworks, not only for vulnerable members of society but also for pets, livestock, and wild animals. They called on the public to support campaigns addressing the unregulated use of fireworks.
The incident serves as a reminder of the impact that human activities, such as setting off fireworks, can have on wildlife. It raises awareness of the need for responsible behaviour and consideration for the environment and animals around us.
In conclusion, it is crucial for individuals to be mindful of the effects their actions may have on wildlife and to consider alternatives that are less harmful to animals and their habitats. Respecting nature and taking steps to protect wildlife can help ensure a safer and healthier environment for all living beings.
