Firework explodes in man’s face during Edinburgh Bonfire Night chaos
Shocking video footage has surfaced showing a firework detonating in a man’s face during the chaos of Bonfire Night in Edinburgh. The distressing incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Gracemount area of the city. In the video shared with Edinburgh Live, the man can be seen gripping the firework in his mouth as he points it towards the sky. As the firework ignites, witnesses can be heard cheering on, but within moments, sparks shoot out, hitting the man’s face and causing screams from those nearby. The man, who also holds a drink in his hand, appears to be in a park, but his current condition is unknown. Police Scotland has been contacted for a response on the matter.
Unfortunately, the chaos of Bonfire Night extended beyond this incident, with reports of cars being vandalised and even a firework being maliciously placed through a letterbox. Additional footage showed a group of approximately 20 youths vandalising a vehicle by jumping on it and smashing its windscreen with a shovel. Furthermore, individuals armed with bats and clubs targeted a Hyundai forecourt on Calder Road, resulting in damaged vehicles with broken windows and doors. Amid the unrest, two firefighters were assaulted in Edinburgh, with another attack reported in West Lothian.
Despite these distressing events, Police Scotland noted a decrease in serious incidents compared to the previous year. As part of Operation Moonbeam, specialised resources were deployed 26 times, with 18 deployments this year during the same timeframe. Assistant Chief Constable Tim Mairs acknowledged the bravery of emergency service workers and condemned the violence faced by police, fire, and ambulance personnel. A thorough investigation is underway to identify and bring those responsible for the disturbances to justice.
In conclusion, the chaotic events of Bonfire Night in Edinburgh serve as a stark reminder of the importance of public safety and responsible behaviour during celebrations. The authorities continue to work diligently to ensure the wellbeing of the community and to hold accountable those who engage in unlawful activities during such occasions.
