New app helps people in Renfrewshire with drug and alcohol addictions on journey to recovery

A new app is being introduced in Renfrewshire to assist individuals battling drug and alcohol addictions on their path to recovery. Abbeycare Scotland, a prominent residential rehabilitation centre in the area, is launching this innovative app as part of its aftercare programme at its Erskine clinic aimed at reducing the risk of relapses. The app includes features such as a digital tracker to record days of sobriety, a journal function for users to express themselves, and access to Abbeycare’s outreach groups and recovery events both locally and online.

Eddie Clarke, the outreach manager at Abbeycare Group, expressed enthusiasm about the app’s potential benefits for clients in Erskine, emphasising the importance of providing ongoing support during the challenging transition from rehab to everyday life. Clarke highlighted the simplicity of reaching out for support through the app and the various features designed to facilitate recovery, such as the option to engage with peers, access resources, and receive guidance in times of crisis. The app aims to make seeking help easier for individuals in recovery, ultimately reducing the likelihood of relapse.

After completing their residential programme, Abbeycare clients are provided with an aftercare plan that includes regular check-ins with outreach staff and volunteers who have personal experience with addiction. The new app complements this support system by centralising recovery-focused resources and information in one accessible platform. Clients like Ross Carrick have found the app valuable in maintaining their daily recovery routines, accessing supportive materials, and staying connected to their journey towards sobriety.

Abbeycare’s initiative underscores the importance of continued care and assistance for individuals recovering from substance abuse, highlighting the role of technology in enhancing support services. By leveraging digital tools like this app, rehabilitation centres can offer extended support beyond the traditional treatment period, empowering individuals to navigate the challenges of recovery with greater ease and convenience. The app’s launch represents a step towards leveraging technology to bolster recovery efforts and provide ongoing assistance to those in need in Renfrewshire and beyond.
