Plans for the new University Hospital Monklands are progressing as site works intensify. The latest developments follow earth settlement trials and mark the beginning of further preparatory works at Wester Moffat in Airdrie. Graeme Reid, director of the Monklands Replacement Project (MRP), outlined the upcoming activities, stating that tree removal on the site will be necessary in the coming weeks as part of the construction preparations.
In line with the project’s landscape masterplan, significant new woodland areas and planting will be established around the hospital and the wider Wester Moffat site, surpassing the number of trees being removed. The MRP is also formulating a Tree Compensation and Management Plan to enhance the area’s landscape and biodiversity, adhering to local guidelines. Additionally, ScottishPower Energy Networks (SPEN) will undertake work to relocate electricity pylons to accommodate the new hospital, subject to approval from the Scottish Government.
