Man Twice Struck with Brick in Shocking Attack While Repairing Car Outside Girlfriend’s Coatbridge Home
A shocking attack unfolded as a man was repairing a car outside his girlfriend’s home in Coatbridge. Mark Boyd, aged 45, pulled the man from beneath the vehicle and proceeded to hit him twice on the head with a brick. The disturbing incident took place on Dunure Street back in February 18 and recently came to light in Airdrie Sheriff Court.
During the court proceedings this week, Kevin Morrow, the prosecutor, described the violent assault that occurred around midday. The victim was working under the vehicle when Boyd approached, removed a brick from his waistband, and dragged the man away from the car. Despite the victim pushing Boyd away, he was struck twice on the head with the brick before Boyd dropped it and walked off. Following the attack, the victim retaliated by picking up a metal bar and striking Boyd on the leg with it. A stand-up fight ensued until members of the public intervened to separate them.
The victim sustained cuts to his forehead and above his eyebrow, which required treatment at a hospital, leaving him with some scarring. Sheriff Derek Livingston deferred sentencing for Boyd until next month to allow for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment, emphasizing that all options are on the table given Boyd’s previous convictions.
