All set for Dumfries Festival of Remembrance – Daily Record
The Crichton Memorial Church in Dumfries is gearing up for a night of music, hymns, poems, and readings at the Festival of Remembrance. Tomorrow night, on Saturday, November 9, at 7pm, the church will host the event organised by the Dumfries Veterans Garden. One of the highlights of the evening will be the construction of a Drumhead Altar by members of the Veterans Garden, alongside the Dumfries and Galloway Regional Youth Choir.
Tickets for the Festival of Remembrance are priced at £10 and can be purchased from the Veterans Garden, Anderson Kilts, and Molly May’s Tea Room, or on the night itself. The event will feature prayers led by the Rev Tom Bonnar, music from Annan Town Band and piper Billy Geddes, as well as the Last Post and Reveille performed by Olivia Beckett. Opening remarks and a closing speech will be given by Councillor Archie Dryburgh MBE, the region’s Armed Forces Champion.
Other participants in the ceremony include the Lord Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong, representatives from the Royal British Legion Scotland Dumfries and Maxwelltown Branch, and the RBLS Dumfries and Maxwelltown branch secretary Mark Harper. Standard bearers and Provost of Dumfries Maureen Johnston will also take part in the memorial service.
