A Crianlarich hotel has been fined by Scotland’s environmental watchdog for burning waste material on the premises. Crianlarich Ben More Limited, which operates Ben More Lodge Hotel and Restaurant, received a £600 penalty for burning waste without permission. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) issued a Fixed Monetary Penalty (FMP) after discovering that waste had been burned at the hotel without authorization. The incident was reported to SEPA in June 2023, prompting an investigation by two officers.
During the investigation, officers found evidence of burned waste materials such as wood, brush, metal, chipboard, nails, mattress springs, insulation, carpet, plastic bottles, paint tins, and more on the site. SEPA concluded that the company had disposed of controlled waste by burning, leading to the imposition of the penalty. Calum McGregor from SEPA’s Environmental Crime Team emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal to avoid harmful environmental impacts.
SEPA can issue FMPs for relevant offences to deter illegal activities that could harm the environment.
