An East Lothian mother has shared her harrowing experience after her son’s seemingly innocent headache turned out to be a cancerous brain tumour. Mason MacKenzie, an eight-year-old boy, had been experiencing minor headaches and fatigue, which raised concerns for his mother, Carly, 27. Despite being advised to consult their GP, Carly’s intuition led her to take Mason to the hospital for further evaluation.
After a series of tests, an MRI revealed an early-stage, cancerous tumour approximately the size of a grape on the left side of Mason’s brain. Carly, a domestic abuse practitioner, expressed gratitude for catching the tumour early, as it enabled Mason to undergo surgery and treatment with strength. Carly emphasised the importance of timely intervention, as waiting a few more weeks could have drastically altered the outcome.
