New West Lothian Lidl Granted Alcohol Licence a Year Before Opening
A new Lidl store in Craigshill has been granted a provisional licence to sell alcohol. The West Lothian Licensing Board heard this week that the new store is expected to be open for business by the end of October next year. Lawyers representing the supermarket stated that the new store would create around 40 full-time jobs.
The site of the new supermarket, located at 1 Almond Road, was previously a car showroom. Currently, the site has been cleared, and preliminary construction work is already in progress. There were no objections or adverse comments received for the application of a provisional licence, as mentioned by Gary McMullen, Clerk to the Board, during the meeting.
An agent for the supermarket chain, which already has premises on Alderstone Road close to the Livingston FC stadium, informed the Board about the progress of the new store. The agent mentioned, “The projected opening date is the end of October next year, and it is intended to create 40 full-time jobs. This supermarket will primarily serve the local residents of Craigshill and Mid and East Calder.”
Councillor Tony Boyle, chairing the meeting, noted that there were no objections and proposed to approve the application, which was agreed upon by the councillors.
The supermarket is planning to have an alcohol display area of 63.5sqm year-round, with additional space during the Christmas period. The alcohol display will be positioned away from the entrance aisle of the premises, consistent with the chain’s practices nationwide.
