Stirling’s Christmas Festivities Kick Off with Grand Light Switch-On
Stirling is gearing up for a festive celebration as the Christmas season officially commences with the city’s Christmas lights switch-on. This weekend marks the start of Stirling’s festive spirit, with a variety of exciting events planned for Saturday, November 16. The theme for this year’s festivities is ‘Santa’s Little Helpers’, and the city centre will come alive with a family parade, panto entertainers, community performers, and a special appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The celebrations will kick off with a parade from Baker Street Gardens at 4.30pm, leading to the roundel at the foot of King Street for the highly-anticipated light switch-on at 5pm. The parade will feature the Stirling and District Schools Pipe Band, the City of Stirling Pipe Band, characters from this year’s ‘Snow White’ panto at the Macrobert, Stirling Scouts and Cubs, community groups, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Claus and Lord Provost, Elaine Watterson. The Tolbooth Voices Choir will serenade the crowd with festive songs, leading up to the magical moment when the lights are switched on by Santa himself at 5pm.
Before the main event, family-friendly entertainment will take place on Port Street from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, featuring Santa’s helper elves, the Strathcarron Singers choir, and a free festive craft workshop at The Tolbooth. Stirling Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Gerry McGarvey, expressed his excitement for the upcoming festivities, highlighting the sense of community and togetherness that these events bring to Stirling.
