A man from Hamilton who threw ammonia in his cousin’s face narrowly escaped a jail sentence at Hamilton Sheriff Court. The victim suffered temporary blindness in one eye following the attack carried out by David Nisbet, 46, at the victim’s residence in Allanshaw Gardens, Hamilton. Instead of prison time, Nisbet was instructed to complete 160 hours of unpaid community work. Additionally, he was placed under an eight-month curfew with an electronic tagging order.
The assault, which took place on July 22 the previous year, left the victim with significant injuries, including redness on his face, skin irritation, and damage to the bottom part of one of his eyes, leading to loss of vision. However, after receiving medical treatment, the victim regained his eyesight three weeks later. During the court proceedings, Nisbet admitted to causing severe injury to the man by throwing a corrosive substance at him.
The prosecutor, Aga Mathieson, revealed that the victim was unable to provide details of the incident other than being attacked in his own home by Nisbet.
