An investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Police Scotland revealed that the principal contractor at the site, Merchant Homes, had failed to carry out a proper risk assessment of the traffic route where the tragic incident occurred. Merchant Homes Partnership Limited, headquartered in George Square, Glasgow, pled guilty to breaching Regulation 27(2) of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. The company was fined a considerable sum of £160,000 at Glasgow Sheriff Court on November 12, 2024.
