Woman shares 10 symptoms of rare cancer doctors mistook for ‘anxiety’

A 24-year-old woman, Saskia Clark, recently shared her journey of being diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer after doctors initially mistook her symptoms for anxiety. Despite her history of anxiety and fatigue, Saskia’s persistence in seeking medical help led to the correct diagnosis. Saskia’s symptoms were not specific to cancer, but she urged others to be proactive about their health.

Initially, doctors attributed Saskia’s symptoms to stress and anxiety, but after several appointments, a CT scan revealed lumps on her lymph nodes. Following a biopsy, Saskia was diagnosed with Medullary thyroid cancer, the rarest type that forms inside the thyroid. In a TikTok video, she highlighted 10 symptoms that prompted her to seek further investigation, including chest pain, unusual bowel movements, heavy periods, fatigue, dry nails and scalp, and disrupted sleep patterns.

Thyroid cancer is considered rare in the UK, and its causes are often unclear. Symptoms may include a lump in the neck, hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing, weight loss, and coughing. While these symptoms do not always indicate cancer, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional if concerned. Saskia’s experience emphasises the importance of advocating for one’s health and not dismissing persistent symptoms.

In summary, Saskia Clark’s journey serves as a reminder to pay attention to changes in our bodies and to persist in seeking answers when faced with persistent symptoms. Early detection can be life-saving, and being proactive about our health is crucial in identifying and addressing potential health concerns. If you notice any unusual symptoms, it is always best to consult a medical professional for proper evaluation and guidance.
