Hamilton Advertiser toy appeal launches for 2024

The Hamilton Advertiser’s annual toy appeal for 2024 has officially launched, calling on the local community to contribute to making Christmas a joyful occasion for children in the area. Donations have already begun pouring in at various collection points throughout the town, such as the Salvation Army warehouse at New Park Street and the local Asda branch. Over the past decade, the appeal has garnered the support of kind-hearted residents, resulting in thousands of gifts being donated, with an impressive 1300 gifts handed over just last year.

The appeal seeks donations of new, unused, and unwrapped gifts for children ranging from birth to 18 years old. These gifts will be distributed with the assistance of South Lanarkshire Council’s social workers, local charities, and other charitable organizations. Items requested include toys, dolls, games, cosmetics, handbags, gift vouchers, footballs, sweets, pyjamas, and more. All donations must be received by Monday, December 9 at the Salvation Army hall in Hamilton, where volunteers will sort them into different age categories for distribution.

Wendy Leisk, captain of the Hamilton Salvation Army, expressed how the donated toys and gifts transform their premises throughout December and highlighted the excitement and dedication of volunteers who participate in the appeal. The appeal’s coordinator, Leona Greenan, emphasized the challenges faced each year by the team and the commitment to ensuring that every child receives a gift, especially considering the economic difficulties faced by families during Christmas.

In addition to the traditional collection points, donations can also be made at Mecca Bingo in Hamilton and Rocca restaurant on Cadzow Street, where themed fundraisers are set to take place to boost the appeal. The generosity and support shown by the community towards the toy appeal have been described as “wonderful” and “amazing” by participants, with the appeal being a significant highlight of the Christmas season for many.

In conclusion, the Hamilton Advertiser’s toy appeal for 2024 is once again aiming to spread joy and festive spirit to children in the local area with the help of generous donations from the community. The outpouring of support and generosity demonstrated by residents is instrumental in making Christmas a magical time for children in need. The appeal serves as a testament to the spirit of giving and kindness that encapsulates the true meaning of the festive season.
