A woman attacked her partner in Motherwell town centre after suspecting he was cheating on her. Hamilton Sheriff Court heard Rachel Blues also grabbed the man’s phone and threw it to the ground. Blues, 23, of High Street, Newarthill, admitted assault and breaching bail conditions by having contact with her partner on March 23. An allegation that she struck him on the head with a piece of glass at a flat in Woodside Tower, Motherwell, on December 6 was dropped.
The couple, who have a child together, had been in an on-off relationship for six years. The town centre CCTV operators witnessed the assault around 5.30pm and alerted the police, who then arrested Blues. She explained to the officers that she suspected her partner of cheating on her, so she took his phone to prove it. The CCTV footage showed Blues running away from her partner while he tried to retrieve his phone. There was a struggle, and Blues threw the phone away.
Her partner managed to grab the phone and sat on a bench, but Blues continued the assault by punching him repeatedly on the head and body, kicking him, spitting in his direction, pouring a bottle’s content on his face, and throwing the empty bottle at him, striking his face. Despite the incident, he refused to provide any details to the police. Blues’ defense lawyer, Craig Dewar, described their relationship as tumultuous.
Blues, who admitted to previous convictions, will have her sentence deferred until next month for background reports.
