A talented young student from Lanarkshire has achieved exceptional success in a global English competition. Loukya Reddy Ravi, a pupil at St Kenneth’s Primary in East Kilbride, surpassed thousands of students worldwide to clinch the gold medal at the fourth annual International English Olympiad competition. The competition evaluates English language skills, encompassing reading, listening, writing, and overall comprehension of contemporary and traditional English texts.
Participants are tested with 50 questions at each level, assessing accuracy and timely completion. Loukya excelled at level 10 and was honoured by the British Youth International College (BYITC) with a certificate for their remarkable English proficiency. Loukya’s parents, Radhika and Vishal, credited the exceptional teaching at BYITC for their child’s success, highlighting the personalised approach and engaging learning techniques that enhanced Loukya’s English abilities.
The International English Olympiad attracted students from diverse backgrounds, with eight winners announced from Scotland, England, Ireland, and Dubai, including Srishti Sriram from Glasgow. Dr Rashmi Mantri, the founder of BYITC, emphasised the competition’s blend of puzzles, grammar, vocabulary, reasoning, and comprehension as a means to develop students’ language skills and boost their confidence in verbal and written communication.
