A new play park inspired by Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff is set to be constructed at Heathfield Primary School in Ayr, South Ayrshire. The planning application for the ‘Cruyff Court’ has been unanimously approved by South Ayrshire Council’s Regulatory Panel. The court is expected to feature an all-weather five-a-side pitch, climbing wall, and sunken trampolines.
The Cruyff Court will be utilized by the pupils at Heathfield Primary School during normal school hours, including children from the Extended Learning Unit. The floodlights will be solar-operated and programmed to turn off by 9.30 pm to prevent use beyond that time. Plans include a 4m fence along the pitch and a 1.2m fence around the area.
According to the Cruyff Foundation, the court will provide a safe space for children to play, fostering togetherness, friendship, and physical and mental development. South Ayrshire Councillors have expressed excitement about the project, highlighting the benefits it will bring to the school children and community, such as reducing antisocial behaviour.
