Members of Wishaw YMCA were recently updated on the progress the organisation has achieved in the past year. The group’s Annual General Meeting was held at their new location on Quarry Street, where community members learned about various initiatives currently underway. Wishaw YMCA chair, Mary Jean Ferguson, expressed gratitude for the support received, stating, “As our membership grows, we are made stronger.”
Ferguson highlighted the significant growth in services, programs, and membership since relocating to Quarry Street. She expressed optimism for the upcoming year, acknowledging the vital role members, volunteers, staff, and trustees have played in the organisation’s success. Speaking to Lanarkshire Live, Ferguson revealed new initiatives planned for the future, such as the establishment of WYTV funded by the Community Empowerment Fund to empower youth in creating content around Wishaw.
The organisation has expanded its staff from one to six members in the past year, with the centre now open daily from 10am to 2pm and hosting evening activities for children. Ferguson commended the community’s overwhelming support, stating, “We really are putting our best foot forward, and it’s amazing to see the support we have been getting.” The momentum and growth at Wishaw YMCA are evident, with a promise of exciting developments on the horizon.
