Voting now open in Bothwell flag design competition
Residents of Bothwell are currently engaged in a flag design competition which aims to select a new emblem for their historic town. Organised by Bothwell’s parish church, scarecrow festival, and community organisation Bothwell Futures, the competition has reached its final stage with four designs shortlisted for consideration. These designs feature local symbols representing aspects such as the town’s castle, river, patron saint, and schools.
Voting is open both in person and online until November 24th, with the winning design set to be unveiled at a special event in January. The initiative is part of the celebrations marking the 625th anniversary of Bothwell parish church, with the goal of creating a flag that the entire community can rally behind and take pride in.
The judging panel, which includes Minister Rev Iain Majcher, expressed their delight at the wide participation in the competition, noting the creativity and imagination shown by both adults and children in their submissions. The community is encouraged to support the initiative by voting for their favourite design.
The winning flag will be officially registered and flown from Bothwell parish church’s tower. The design will serve as a symbol of Bothwell’s heritage and culture for years to come. The cost of the flag will be covered by Bothwell Futures, with support from donations. Expert advice on flag design was provided by Phillip Tibbets from the Court of the Lord Lyon.
